Cerebras Systems is expanding its European AI infrastructure footprint with a new data center in Mikkeli, Finland. The project will scale to 165 MW of contracted IT capacity, with construction of the initial 50 MW phase already under way.
The facility is being developed with Compute Nordic Finland and is backed by a series of seven-year service orders, giving Cerebras long-term access to purpose-built AI compute capacity.
The first 50 MW phase is already under construction. The wider project is planned to expand in stages from 50 MW to 80 MW and ultimately to 165 MW of contracted IT capacity.
A phased AI data center buildout
Cerebras and Compute Nordic Finland are developing the facility specifically for high-density AI computing. Rather than announcing a fully built 165 MW site, the companies are starting with a 50 MW deployment and plan to increase capacity in later phases.
The project is notable because the planned capacity is already tied to long-term service orders. That gives the development a different profile from speculative data center capacity built ahead of confirmed demand.
Cooling and heat recovery
The facility is designed around high-density AI workloads and will use a closed-loop cooling system that recirculates water. The project also includes plans for waste heat recovery, an increasingly important consideration as AI facilities require substantially higher power and cooling capacity.
Investment and European expansion
Cerebras estimates that the full 165 MW project could represent between €1.0 billion and €1.7 billion in regional investment. The development is also expected to create between 80 and 250 direct permanent jobs.
Finland is part of Cerebras’ broader European infrastructure expansion. The company has outlined plans for approximately 200 MW of AI compute capacity across Europe by the end of 2027, with additional activity focused on France and the Nordic region.
