Hetzner Launches CPX02 Cloud Server With 1 GB RAM in Europe and Singapore

VPS and VDS

Hetzner has introduced CPX02, a new entry-level cloud server in its Regular Performance lineup, giving customers a smaller configuration for workloads that do not need the 2 GB of memory offered by the existing CPX12 entry point.

The new instance provides 1 shared vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage. Hetzner made CPX02 available on October 6 across its Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki locations in Europe, as well as Singapore.

A smaller entry point for Hetzner Cloud

CPX02 sits below CPX12, which Hetzner introduced in its European locations in July 2026 with 1 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 40 GB of storage.

The change gives Hetzner a more granular option for small services where allocating 2 GB of memory and 40 GB of storage is unnecessary. The company describes CPX02 as suitable for applications with very low resource requirements, including static websites, blogs and simple single-service applications.

That distinction matters. A 1 GB virtual machine leaves little room for memory-heavy application stacks, databases or multiple services running together. CPX02 is therefore better understood as a lightweight infrastructure tier than as a general-purpose replacement for larger VPS configurations.

WHAT CHANGED

Hetzner has extended the bottom of its Regular Performance range rather than increasing the resources of an existing plan. Customers can now choose a 1 GB configuration for small workloads instead of starting with CPX12’s 2 GB allocation.

CPX02 launches in Europe and Singapore

The new plan is available in four Hetzner locations:

  • Falkenstein, Germany — FSN1
  • Nuremberg, Germany — NBG1
  • Helsinki, Finland — HEL1
  • Singapore — SIN

The inclusion of Singapore is notable because Hetzner treats its Asia-Pacific cloud footprint differently from its European locations in several respects, including traffic allowances. Hetzner’s current Regular Performance documentation lists at least 20 TB of included traffic for EU cloud servers and 0.5 TB for servers in its AP location.

Hetzner first opened its Singapore cloud location in 2024, making it the company’s first location in Southeast Asia. The provider said at the time that Singapore pricing would be higher than at its European locations because of connectivity costs.

Regular Performance means shared CPU resources

CPX belongs to Hetzner’s Regular Performance family. Unlike the company’s General Purpose CCX instances, which use dedicated vCPUs, the CPX range uses shared CPU resources.

Hetzner reorganized parts of its cloud portfolio in 2025 around hardware generations and performance classes. The current CPX generation runs on newer AMD hardware available in each location, while CCX is positioned for workloads that require dedicated CPU resources.

That makes CPX02 more relevant to low-intensity services where CPU demand is intermittent than to workloads that require predictable sustained compute performance.

Why the new 1 GB tier matters

The launch does not introduce a new virtualization model or a higher-performance instance class. Its significance is simpler: Hetzner is lowering the resource floor of its current Regular Performance lineup.

Small infrastructure tasks often do not need several gigabytes of memory. A minimal reverse proxy, lightweight monitoring endpoint, small development environment, VPN gateway or single-purpose service can fit into a small virtual machine when the software stack is selected accordingly.

At the same time, operators should not treat the 1 GB specification as sufficient simply because an application can start within that limit. Operating-system memory, background services, package updates and temporary workload spikes all compete for the same allocation. Applications with databases, containers or unpredictable traffic can exhaust a 1 GB instance quickly.

The new tier therefore gives users another sizing option rather than removing the need to size a VPS around the actual workload.

Existing Hetzner cloud servers are unaffected

Hetzner’s announcement describes CPX02 as an addition to the product range, not a migration of existing instances.

The company has made several changes to its cloud lineup over the past year. In July, CPX12 became available in European locations with 1 vCPU, 2 GB of RAM and 40 GB of disk space. Earlier pricing changes that took effect in June applied to new cloud server orders and rescales, while existing servers were not affected as long as they were not rescaled.

For current users, the practical change from the October announcement is therefore the availability of another server size when creating or resizing infrastructure where the new plan is offered.

THE BOTTOM LINE

CPX02 gives Hetzner customers a new 1 GB entry point for lightweight virtual servers in Europe and Singapore. It is a shared-vCPU instance aimed at small, low-resource services rather than compute-intensive production workloads.
